MARRIAGE LICENSE INFORMATION
If you want to be married in California you will need to obtain a marriage
license and have your marriage solemnized by a judge, wedding minister or
rabbi. The fee for a license in Los Angeles County is $70. The bride and
groom must appear in person to obtain the marriage license.

Is there a waiting period, is blood test required, do we need witnesses?
In California there is NO waiting period (the law changed about 12 years ago). No blood test is
required before a couple can be married.

What is the difference between the confidential license and the public marriage
license? In California, we have two types of marriage license, public or private. The
confidential license is the private license. The confidential license is recorded in the vital
record and closed to the public. Only the bride and groom can obtain a certified copy of their
marriage license. The public license is exactly the same marriage license accept that it is open
to the public to view. Anyone can obtain a copy of your marriage license if you have a public
license. The California marriage license includes a lot of private information you may not want
everyone to see. The California marriage license has your home address, maiden name, divorce
information, parents names and maiden names.
Will we get a copy of our California marriage license on the day of our ceremony or
solemnization? Yes, Richard Grasso will give you an original copy of your marriage license on
the day of your wedding.
What is a Certified Copy of the marriage license?
The certified copy of your marriage license is proof that your marriage has been recorded in the
Vital Record of the State of California. The "certified copy" of the marriage license costs $13 per
copy. You must order the certified copy separately from the marriage license in order to receive
a copy.
How does the notary public issue the California marriage license?
Richard Grasso is authorized to purchase the Confidential California Marriage License from the
Los Angeles clerk's office and, in turn, issues the license to the couple. Richard Grasso will bring
his typewriter to the bride and groom to complete the marriage license process.
Can Richard Grasso marry a couple at a jail or prison? No, Richard Grasso does not
conduct weddings in this situation. The bride and groom must be married by a judge. A notary
public is not authorized to conduct a wedding for incarcerated individuals.
Can Richard Grasso solemnize the marriage?
Richard Grasso, is a non-denominational minister legally authorized to solemnize marriages.
What is a justice of the peace? In California, a deputy marriage commissioner can solemnize
your marriage, in California there is no actual title, "justice of the peace."
Where do we go to obtain our California marriage license? It depends
on the county where you want to obtain the marriage license. In Los Angeles
County the bride and groom need to appear in person at the County Clerk's
office (may be at the court house depending on county) or meet with and
authorized notary public to obtain a marriage license. Notary Public, Richard
Grasso can obtain the California Confidential marriage license for you and
deliver it to you. This means you do not have to go to the county clerk to
obtain a the marriage license. Richard offers to travel to your home or you
can meet him at his office. There is no blood test requirement or waiting
period in California.

What type of identification do we need to provide?
One of the following ID's:
- current CA photo identification
- passport from any country

Can we be married the same day we receive the marriage license?
Yes, Richard Grasso can issue your marriage license and solemnize your
marriage (conduct a ceremony) the same day.
You can also have a ceremony at the county clerk's though you will need to
make an appointment for the ceremony and may not be able to have the
ceremony the same day that you receive your marriage license.
