MARRIAGE LICENSE INFORMATION
If you want to be married in California you will need to obtain a marriage
license and have your marriage solemnized by a officiant or wedding minister.
The fee for a license in Los Angeles County is $70. The bride and groom
must appear in person to obtain the marriage license.
FAQ
Is there a waiting period, is blood test required, do we need witnesses?
California does not have a waiting period (the law changed 10 years ago) or
require a blood test before a couple can be married. Richard has marriage
licenses on hand and can issue the marriage license 7 days per week.
Will we get a copy of our California marriage license on the day of our
ceremony or solemnization? Yes, Richard Grasso will give you an official
copy of your marriage license on the day of your wedding.
What is the public marriage license? The State of California issues two
types of marriage license, that is, public or confidential. The public license is
recorded in the vital record and anyone can obtain a copy of the marriage
license because it is public information.
What is the confidential marriage license? In California, couples can obtain
a private marriage license, this is the confidential license. The license is still
recorded in the California vital record, however, only the bride and groom have
authorization to present their marriage license information to third party
agencies. The requirements for the confidential license are exactly the same as
a public marriage license with the exception that the bride and groom must be
living together as husband and wife before they are married.
What is a Certified Copy of the marriage license?
The certified copy of your marriage license is proof that your marriage has been
recored in the Vital Record of the State of California. The "certified copy" is what
the couple uses to prove they are married. In California the certified copy of the
marriage license costs $13 per copy.
My fiance is incarcerated at the county jail, can we get married at the
county jail (prison)? We do not travel to the county jail. You will need to
obtain your marriage license at the court house by a judge. A notary public is
not authorized to issue the marriage license for incarcerated individuals.
Where do we go to obtain our California marriage license?
In Los Angeles County the bride and groom need to appear in person at the
County Clerk's office (may be at the court house depending on county) or
meet with an authorized notary public to obtain a marriage license. Notary

for weddings taking place in Los Angeles County, this means you do not have
to go to the county clerk to obtain a the marriage license. Richard offers to
travel to your home or you can meet him at his office. There is no blood test
requirement or waiting period in California.

What type of identification do we need to provide?
One of the following ID's:
- current CA photo identification
- or passport from any country
- or military identification
- or Mexican Matricula Conselar card (with two witnesses, notary service only)
Can we be married the same day we receive the marriage license?
Yes, Richard Grasso can issue your license and solemnize your marriage
(conduct a ceremony) the same day. You can also have a ceremony at the
county clerk's though you will need to make an appointment for the ceremony
and may not be able to have the ceremony the same day that you receive
your license.
